A 30-year-old man has been apprehended at a Melbourne shopping centre after allegedly stealing a knife and using it to assault and threaten shoppers.

Terrified shoppers locked themselves in stores at Watergardens Shopping Centre in Taylors Lakes as brave bystanders approached the man, tackling him to the ground, the Herald Sun reported.

“The barbers ran out with chairs and managed to hold him down until the cops came," a witness told the publication.

The man was arrested by police who had rushed to the scene shortly before 1pm.

Victoria Police allege the man stole the knife from a grocery store inside the shopping centre.

"With assistance from the public a 30-year-old Sunshine man was swiftly arrested and is currently assisting police with their enquires," police said, stressing no one was injured.

The incident comes weeks after knifeman Joel Cauchi killed six people at Bondi Junction Westfield shopping centre in a stabbing rampage.

Police in NSW say they have found the body of a woman believed to be missing 63-year-old Vicki Davey.

She disappeared on Wednesday when she headed out for a bushwalk in the Lake Macquarie area.

"The body of a woman was located near a waterway at Glenrock nature reserve at Kahibah," police said in a statement.

TV and radio personality Steve Price has continued his feud with radio host Kyle Sandilands, blasting him in an opinion piece for the Herald Sun.

Price argues "crude and threatening language towards women" on-air has no place in Australia at a time the country's domestic violence crisis has reached tipping point.

He said Sandiland's abuse of women in the past has been "vile" and "threatening".

More than 130 demonstrators were arrested at the University of California in LA on Thursday as police looked to disperse a long-standing protest camp – a set up seen across several campuses in the US where violence has often broken out as counter protesters and law enforcement step in.

Mystery continues to surround a fatal beach stabbing on Thursday morning where a NSW surfer was attacked moments after leaving the water.

Police in Coffs Harbour continue to scour the area surrounding Park Beach after the 22-year-old was killed. He was found with multiple stab wounds in a nearby car park.
